Joshua Smith Quartet / Joshua Smith Organism
Quartet: Joshua Smith – Saxophones;  Ben Wright – bass; Robert Muller – piano; Dave Wayne – Drums & percussion.

Organism: Joshua Smith – Saxophones; Milton Villarrubia – Drums & electronics, Al Faaet – Drums & percussion, Chris Jonas – Saxophone, Carlos Santistevan – Bass, Jeremy Bleich – Bass, plus special guests…

Fresh off a gig at ‘The Stone’ in New York City with the Scott Amendola Quartet (w/special guest, guitarist Nels Cline), Josh brings his saxophone virtuosity to Santa Fe to make more joyous musical mayhem with long-time associates Jeremy Bleich (bass / oud / guitar), drummers Milton Villarrubia and Dave Wayne, saxophonist Chris Jonas, and others.

Joshua Smith is one of the leading lights of the always innovative, ever-vital Bay Area music scene. Smith has recorded and performed with a long list of creative music’s most important voices such as Joe Maneri, Cuong Vu, Ben Goldberg, Myra Melford, Karla Khilstedt, Jamey Haddad, and many more. For the past two years, he has been a regular member of The Scott Amendola Quartet. His large-scale projects include co-writing and performing the music for the Harvey Pekar / Dan Plonsey opera collaboration, “Leave Me Alone,” which debuted at Oberlin Conservatory’s Finney Chapel in January 2009. This performance drew a rave review from AllAboutJazz.com ( http://www.allaboutjazz.com/php/article.php?id=31852#.ULwx0NuF9AN)

Joshua is no stranger to the Santa Fe music community. The Cleveland, Ohio native performed recently at the GiG Performance Space with his folk / Americana duo The Old Way (Joshua and Irena Smith on vocals and guitars), and at several High Mayhem Festivals with Birth (featuring Santa Fe resident Jeremy Bleich on bass and Joe Tomino on drums), The Cleveland Trio (with Bleich and drummer Carmen Castaldi) and Amitosis (with Tomino, Jonas, and bassist Kurt Kotheimer).

Guitarist / vocalist Irena Smith is traveling with Joshua, so don’t rule out a brief impromptu set by The Old Way.

Please join us for a night of compelling fringe jazz improvisations at Santa Fe’s premier venue for new and adventurous music!

Joshua Smith is presented in collaboration with Santa Fe University of Art and Design’s Contemporary Music Program.

Location: O’Shaugnessy Performance Space-Santa Fe University of Art and Design, 1600 Saint Michael’s Drive, Santa Fe New Mexico 87505, Santa Fe, NM,
